You can follow me @Cats_and_Bones for sneaky peeks of new work and the design process. At the moment you can go to my Etsy shop and browse my printable illustrations and patterns. HOWEVER after a little soul searching I've decided to return to screen printing and will be producing screen printed artworks and textile products in the future. It's all super exciting stuff and I can not freaking wait to get back in the print studio and start making. So watch this space for all things patterned, printed and lovely. Byeeeeeeeeeee :-) <![CDATA[Monday Moodboard]]> 2016-05-17T07:30:00+01:00 2016-05-17T07:30:00+01:00 Jen Moules 1, 2 and 3. <![CDATA[Monday Moodboard]]> 2016-05-09T08:00:00+01:00 2016-05-09T08:00:00+01:00 Jen Moules 1, 2, 3 and 4. <![CDATA[Monday Moodboard]]> 2016-04-25T08:45:00+01:00 2016-04-25T08:45:00+01:00 Jen Moules 1, 2, 3 and 4. <![CDATA[Fat Quarters and Vintage Scrap Packs!]]> 2016-04-22T08:00:00+01:00 2016-04-22T08:00:00+01:00 Jen Moules Hey guys! I thought maybe it was time I told you guys a little something about myself, so here goes... Who are you and what do you do? My name is Jen Warman and I run a textile design business called Jen Moules Designs. Wait, what's with the name? Moules is my maiden name, I got married 3 years ago and decided not to change my company name. Moules is pretty unusual so I kept it. What kind of work do you do? I design textile prints using my original illustrations. I have these designs digitally printed onto fabric, so I can then make accessories such as purses, pencil cases and cosmetic bags. All Jen Moules Designs products are designed and sewn by little old me. Where did you grow up and go to university? I grew up in Somerset, England in a small country village, beautiful but very boring. In between A levels and a fashion design course I subsequently dropped out of I had a string of very uninteresting jobs until I finally decided to go to the Arts University College at Bournemouth in 2008 to study textile design and have never looked back! When and why did you set up your business? I set up July 2011 as soon as I graduated from university. I always knew I wanted to work for myself, design without restriction and make my own schedule. Knowing that I can be super organised (to do lists and making myself daily schedules are literally heaven!) I was confident I had the motivation to make this work. Where do you live and work? I currently live in Neukolln an area of Berlin, Germany. I live in a top floor apartment with my husband and have set up a home studio/work space just off the living room tucked away and out of sight. It's a great little space adjacent to our roof terrace - perfect for when summer rolls around. What do you do when you're not working? I actually also work as a dog walker and pet sitter. I started late last year simply because I miss my cat baby sooooo much (he's living in England with my Mum) and it's stuck. I love to break up my work day with a visit to a fur baby or a refreshing walk with an adorable pup. Our weekends are usually spent with friends drinking beer and going to concerts - there's always something to do and somewhere new to go! We also often wonder around the many flea markets on the weekends, I do love looking at old tat! ;-) Are you working on any new projects? I recently joined the Etsy Berlin Street Team and am helping organise the Etsy summer pop up shop. It'll be a bit of steep learning curve but a great way to contribute and meet lots of lovely fellow creatives. What are some of your favourite things... Baking, going for long walks, murder mysteries, cats, drawing and Instagram. And some of your least favourite things... Having my photo taken (that's why you won't find many), learning German - it's a grammatical nightmare and being stuck inside all day. Any wishes for the future? I'd love to one day own a fancy camera and know how to use it. Learn to and enjoy gardening - I must have it in me!? Do a ceramics course, something I've wanted to do for ages. I plan to fill our home with various wonky bowls and animal figurines. That's it I guess. If you have any questions about me or my work feel free to send me a message :-) <![CDATA[Things to try this weekend...]]> 2016-03-24T14:00:00+00:00 2016-03-24T14:00:00+00:00 Jen Moules Spring has officially sprung, Easter is here and you've got a big fat four day weekend - yay! So if you haven't got much planned or the weather stinks (most likely) here's a few family friendly DIYS to do this weekend. I am the proud owner of an adorable Charlotte Farmer cat print and have admired her work for a few years now. She's an amazing British illustrator and screen printer and you can't help but fall in love with her cute little characters. Here's a little something about Charlotte... Tell us about yourself and your business, what do you do? Hello, I'm an illustrator and screen printer. What inspires your work? Ooh all sorts of things, though mostly it's about collections of things – especially souvenirs such as stamps, snow globes, also old toys, matchbooks (my dad collects these – he has lots of 80's wine bar ones!), wildlife and favourite pets. I like to think about the relationships between the individual items/animals that make up the collections and what they might have to say to each other. I'm really into small details – so there's always something new to discover. I love colour and my current favourite thing is glow in the dark ink!! Where do you work? Describe your work space. I have two spaces – one is behind the sofa in our small flat (which I share with my boyfriend and my demanding cat) – that's where I do all my drawings and Photoshop magic. The other is at Spike Print Studio in Bristol – it's good for me to go there as it means I get to talk to people. What do you love about your job? That it's different every day and I'm the boss – I had a summer job working in a pub once when I was at uni and I realised I hated being told what to do! When you’re not working, how do you spend your free time? At the moment – the run up to Christmas there isn't that much free time to be had – though when I do have some I enjoy going for coffee and playing tennis – not at the same time. I've also just started doing cross fit – so today I can barely use my arms. What are you currently working on? Making things for Christmas and a book about making things for your hamster!! Any projects or events coming up that you’d like to share with us? My second colouring book “The Passive Aggressive Colouring book” is out in January, (the first one, “the Hipster colouring book” is out now!!) I've also got loads of Christmas fairs coming up, including the Print Show at Coston Hall in Bristol on the 22nd Nov and the Crafty Fox market in Peckham on 12th Dec. Who are your designer favourites? I love Hockney’s work especially his early etchings, Andy Warhol’s illustrations, Cy Twombly, Amelie Fontaine – a French illustrator, Carson Ellis, Marcel Dzama....I'm always finding new favourites on Pinterest when I'm being easily distracted from work. Finally, any advice for those budding designer makers out there? It can take a while to get established and you might have to juggle work with crappy jobs (I’ve worked in a book shop, a cheese shop, made sandwiches and sold posh gifts in my time) but it's definitely worth it in the end.
